Don’t Give Up Under Uncertain or Difficult Circumstances

David Abrahams, Jose Jimenez, Lara Brennecke & Family

David Abrahams is a highly competent and resourceful REALTOR® here at Phyllis Browning Company. From past personal experiences purchasing and selling homes in Washington, Florida and Texas, he has learned that patience, perseverance and optimism go hand in hand in the real estate industry. David spent 32 years serving in the United States Army, where he developed his strong decision-making skills, proficiency in project management and effective operation oversight. Leveraging those 30+ years of professional experience in Phyllis Browning Company, David has closed numerous lucrative deals. In one particularly challenging transaction, executed remotely during the height of the current pandemic, David demonstrated how critical those qualities are to completing a successful Real Estate transaction.

Amid the global spread of Covid-19, David represented homebuyers and fellow West Point Grads Lara Brennecke and Jose Jimenez. Lara and Jose were professors at The United Military Academy who had been hired to teach at The Medical Center of Excellence at Fort Sam Houston. They were seeking a home close to work and in a safe residential neighborhood for their two boys, Hawk and Phoenix. With high expectations they began their search with David in February just as Covid-19 broke out heavily in New York.

David’s mantra quickly became “Don’t give up under uncertain or difficult circumstances” as he began maneuvering this tumultuous time in real estate. Lara and Jose watched video tours of David showing homes while quarantined in their New York home with their two rambunctious boys. After many virtual showings, the family had their first home under contract with a closing date in April. Unfortunately, they had to terminate the deal. Shortly after, they had a second home under contract but to their dismay they had to terminate yet again. Due to the rapid spread of Covid-19 New York State implemented strict social distancing rules and travel bans. Simultaneously the Army and the federal government suspended all change of station travel. As a result both Lara and Jose’s employment offer letters were suspended. As if those troubles weren’t enough Lara and Jose were selling a home in Maryland. Due to Covid-19, they had several opportunities to sell their home fall through. A move for the family no longer seemed likely. They suspended their house hunt in the San Antonio area.

David kept in active contact with the Jimenez family. His determination and attentiveness to his clients kept him searching for the perfect home even with their future in Texas questionable. After a few weeks of uncertainty in mid-April Lara and Jose informed David that their offer letters had been reactivated and they in-fact would be moving to San Antonio. With that extraordinary news, David reinitiated the video tours and house hunting commenced once again.

The tenacity and motivation to give this family a desirable home fueled David as he continued to assist them through the house-hunting process. Unable to find a home in existing inventory that suited the client’s, David sent out a message to his fellow PBC agents emphasizing their requirements. He received an immediate response from Top Luxury Real Estate Agent (2019) and Platinum Top 50 Finalist (2019) Kristin Kellum. She made David aware of a beautiful upcoming listing in the neighborhood of Summerfield. With exceptional amenities and convenience to Salado Creek Greenway and Phil Hardberger Park, David knew this was the right fit for his clients. This home was what they had been searching for so fiercely. After their first video showing and research on the neighborhood, the Jimenez family excitedly placed an offer. Working closely with Kristin, who David highlights as a phenomenal agent, both PCB agents were able to close the deal before the original closing date. Nothing could stand in his way of giving this family the home they deserved.

Reflecting on this successful transaction, David explained that he has done several of these remote purchases and that there is always a bit of anxiety waiting for the clients to see their home for the first time. On the 30th of June, a full month after closing, Lara, Jose, Hawk and Phoenix walked into their new home for the first time. It was an emotional moment and was love at first sight!

David stresses that the secret to helping a client find a home remotely is to “Work Hard and listen even harder to your clients’ needs. Do not be afraid to help them find something that works for them, even if it is outside of a few of their original parameters”. Working at this time has presented its challenges. However, by embracing the ability of technology and staying optimistic, David and the Jimenez family were able to work together to find their dream home.

David defines success in the real estate world plain and simple: client satisfaction. There is no better reward than helping a family purchase their forever home during this unforeseen time in our country. With patience, perseverance, optimism, and a competent, resourceful REALTOR®– anything is possible!
